It’s been fascinating to me how each week of my journey to a healthier lifestyle has presented me with new challenges and new joys that I would never have expected! This week, I’ve been to the gym twice, which is still short of my goal but better than last week. I’ve noticed that, even without going to the gym that much, my increase in walking has definitely allowed to me do heavier weights on the leg press. I still haven’t managed to get hold of a pedometer, but I’m really looking forward to seeing just how many steps I do each day and trying to slowly build it up.
The most shocking change this week has been my skin. It turns out that people aren’t joking when they say healthy eating, drinking enough water and doing enough exercise does wonders for the complexion! I’m normally quite acne prone, and my skin is still far from perfect, but it’s cleared up hugely in the past fortnight. I’ve even had compliments from people at work and church that said I look glowy! I think this is also partly a result of my mood lifting so much since I cut out takeaways and started exercising more, but either way it’s a great unexpected benefit of my new life.
When I started this journey, I expected to be weighing myself every week to track my progress, but now I’m not actually sure I’m going to weigh myself at all. I feel better, I look better, my clothes fit more nicely, and numbers on a scale feel less and less relevant. It’s easy to assume that health is all about weight, and I thought my journey would focus on losing a certain amount per week, or getting to a goal weight. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to lose weight, but the difference in my clothes shows that I’ve been doing that, and what is much more important to me now is keeping up with my lifestyle changes so I can carry on feeling healthier, happier and more at peace with myself!
